Elderly Man Tied Up During Home Invasion in Orange Walk

An elderly man from the Orange Walk District became the latest home invasion victim on Monday when three men barged into his home. 81-year-old Albert Burns was sleeping inside his home on Jalacte Street when he heard a noise just after 2:30. Burns says he was awakened by three masked men who demanded he tell them where he had his licensed firearm. The elderly man says he complied and told them where his 12-gauge automatic shotgun was hidden. The men then ransacked his home and demanded money and jewellery. Burns informed the men he only had four hundred dollars and handed over the money. The men then tied up Burns and searched his home again before making off with his Toyota 4runner SUV, a television, and a cell phone. Burns says he then managed to get help from a neighbour and rushed to the police station. Police investigations continue.
