A vacation for an elderly couple from Omaha, Nebraska, USA ended in tragedy on January 31 following a snorkeling trip at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. 77-year-old, Kenneth Paul Jarosz, and his wife, Jeanette, had traveled to San Pedro for a stay at La Perla Villa. On Saturday morning, the couple joined a tour operated by Action Divers aboard the vessel Lady Susan. While at the reserve, Kenneth entered the water along with the tour guide and captain. Shortly after, his wife noticed him floating face down and motionless. Despite immediate efforts by the crew to pull him back on board and provide assistance, Kenneth showed no signs of life. The group was met at the “Gas and Go” dock by Island Emergency services, where medical personnel confirmed the fatality. Dr. Lara of the San Pedro Polyclinic officially pronounced him deceased at 12:47 PM. The body of Jarosz has been transported to a cooling unit pending a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. At this time, no foul play is suspected, and the matter remains under standard investigation.
