Elderly Woman Arrested Amid Eviction Dispute

After refusing to leave her home on Cemetery Road, 61-year-old, Gertrude Marilyn Hunter, was arrested and charged on Saturday. Hunter appeared unrepresented before a magistrate in court where she was charged with one count of trespassing in premises, one count of damage to property, and two counts of aggravated assault. The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred in January. Police officers reported that Hunter damaged a Galaxy A03 Touchscreen cellphone, property of a Police Inspector, and assaulted another police officer. It is further alleged by Pauline McFadzean that Hunter trespassed on the premises located at 49 Cemetery Road. Hunter pleaded not guilty to all allegations. Court Reporter Anita Nembhard spoke to Hunter, who spoke about her experience with police officers during the eviction.

The magistrate offered bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount. Her next court date is set for March 18.
