Elderly Woman’s Home Destroyed by Fire in Santa Rosa Village

An elderly woman’s home was destroyed by fire in Santa Rosa Village, Stann Creek District. The fire ignited on Sunday morning at around nine o’clock. Reports to our newsroom say that the fire was observed by a visitor who had gone to see the occupant, 78-year-old Dolores Xo. According to Xo’s grandson, he was alarmed at the news of a fire and was going to enter the home to rescue his grandma, but found out that she was not at home when the fire broke out.
“It was a lady who went at my mom’s house and visit her. And when she left, towards where my granny then, and she saw the fire behind the house. And she returned back, and she was calling me back for me to go out the fire with water but I didn’t think about that. I just remembered my granny where she is and I saw the door there locked and I thought she was there and I hurry ran to save her but she was not there and afterwards when thy told me that my granny was with her daughter. I tried to save some things for her but I didn’t make it and the fire went all the way to the top of the house.”
No one was hurt during the incident. Pop says that his family is still shocked by the incident and is trying to decide the best course of action going forward.
