Elections and Boundaries Commission Not Bound by Expert Report

And as we told you earlier in the week, the redistricting case was brought by the Belize Peace Movement (BPM) with its original claim in 2019. The BPM sued the Elections and Boundaries Commission to have the Commission conduct a redistricting exercise. Both parties have settled the matter and agreed that the Commission will compile and present a report to the National Assembly by July 2023. As part of the settlement, both parties agreed to a Consent Order which says in part that they agree to consult the guidelines set out by the Court’s Expert Report of Sean Trende. Chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission Oscar Sabido, says they had several issues with the report.
