The redistricting exercise is moving forward. This exercise will see all thirty-one constituencies in the country redrawn to reflect a more proportionate amount of voters across the board. The Chief Elections Officer, Josephine Tamai, explained the department’s role in this process.
Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer: “Basically the department serves as a secretariat to the Election and Boundaries Commission and the Commission appointed a task force which comprises of persons from different ministries and departments with different expertise, right, and I can tell you that the Commission had appointed myself as the Chief Elections Officer as the President of that Task Force. So presently, the entire task force, we’re working on putting our report together in order to submit to the Commission because at the end of the day it is the Elections and Boundaries Commission that has to make the final decision and to make any submission to the National Assembly. The task force just makes recommendations to that body.”
