With the recent announcement of the upcoming bi-elections for the Dangriga electoral division which includes the areas of Hope Creek and Sarawee, personnel have been busy making preparations for the elections process. The department issued a press release today relevant to those who wish to contest the bi-elections as well as voters of the division. It has been ascertained that the polls will open on Wednesday, July 8 at 7am and closes at 6pm while it has been announced that Nomination Day will take place on Monday, June 22 from 10am to 4pm at the Dangriga Town Hall. The nomination forms are now available at the Elections and Boundaries Registration Office in Dangriga Town or from Colin Griffith, the Returning Officer, at the Customs and Excise Department on Caesar Ridge Road in Belize City and as well from Sylvia Usher, the Election Clerk at the Immigration and Nationality Department on Dry Creek Street in Belmopan. In the release issued today by the Election and Boundaries Department, it reads, quote, “With nomination day being the 22nd June, 2015 only persons who registered on or prior to 10th May 2015 are persons whose names appear on the register and are therefore eligible to vote in this by-election. This is in conformity with the time table mandated by the Representation of the People Act to ensure that the period guaranteed by law for making objections and the hearing of appeals by the Revising Officer is complied with. Persons who applied to be registered after 10th May 2015 would not have gone through the process required by law as of nomination day.” End of quote. Love News will be carrying reports from Dangriga for both Nomination Day and Bi-Election Day.
