Eleven-year-old Jamir Samir Marin died a hero, trying to save his thirty-year-old mother from a collapsing cement wall. It happened in San Narciso Village, Corozal, at around three o’clock on Holy Saturday. Jamir and his mother, Norely Marin, were in their backyard spending some time together with Marin’s younger child, a three-year-old, and Jamir insisted that his mother watch him play football. She did and while she laid on a hammock, she realized that the cement wall was slowly tilting over. Jamir ran to help his mother, forcing his little body to prevent the wall from completely collapsing. While his determination was tremendous, his strength faded and the wall collapsed on him and his mother. Neighbours ran to their aid and rushed both mother and son to the Corozal Community Hospital where Jamir died.
The boy’s mother continues to be treated for her injuries at the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town.
