Simultaneously with the municipal elections was the bi-election in Corozal Bay with Elvia Vega-Samos claiming victory just after eight o’clock. This area had a high voter-turnout with seventy-two point three-four percent. Correspondent Rene Mendez spoke with Vega minutes after the unofficial numbers emerged from the counting stations.
Elvia Vega-Samos, Corozal Bay Area Representative: “I feel very happy and I’m so thankful to God, thankful to the people who believe in me, it’s unexplainable. What happened I had this one to one relationship with the people you know I try not to miss their homes and I know as well that they had a lot of love for my brother and a lot of love for me and I’m so thankful for that.”
Rene Mendez, Love FM News: I might be asking the obvious, who do you dedicate this victory to ?
Elvia Vega-Samos, Corozal Bay Area Representative: “I dedicate this victory to Dido, this one da fu Dido. You know Dido went through many hardships to get where he was.”
Elvia Vega had gone up against former UDP Mayor Hilberto Campos.
