Police in Belize City are investigating the murder of 34-year-old Elvis Aldana on Saturday night. Around eight-thirty, Aldana was socializing at a residence at the corner of Electric Avenue and McKay Boulevard when he was targeted. Police say he was approached by a Hispanic man, who pulled out a firearm and shot him several times before fleeing the scene. Aldana was mortally wounded and succumbed to his injuries on the scene. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says investigators are yet to identify any suspects or establish a motive for the murder.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “On Saturday police visited Electric Avenue where a report came in that there was a shooting incident. Upon their arrival police saw the lifeless body of Elvis Aldana with multiple gunshot wounds. Information received is that Aldana was in a yard along with several persons when gunshots were heard and he received the fatal injuries. The police arrived and only found Aldana in the area. An investigation is being carried out into this murder.”
Notably, Aldana had several run-ins with the law over the years. He appears in our news archives for being charged with drug possession, attempting to smuggle drugs into the Belize Central Prison. He was also sentenced to two years in jail for keeping unlicensed ammunition.
