41-year-old Emory Gonzalez was physically assaulted by three men at the entrance of Old Belize on the George Price Highway on Saturday morning. The Belize Police Department has since set up strategic checkpoints in an attempt to detain the three assaulters. According to Senior Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, the men have already been identified via the surveillance footage and are being sought by the Police.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “Police are investigating this matter. I believe that Mr.Gonzales was readmitted to the hospital this morning. We have interviewed him for a very short time but what we have gathered so far is that he was in the company of a female person and they went to Old Belize to deal with some situation there and whilst waiting out there a vehicle came, three persons came out of the vehicle and he was brutally attacked by these three male persons.”
Reporter: Now had there been any previous history or long time history or were they gang rivals or neighborhood rivals of Emory Martinez?
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “Gonzales. No.”
Reporter: Okay so no previous rivalry. Do you all have any idea who the men in the car were?
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “Yes we have identified them and police are looking for them at this moment.”
Gonzalez received cut wounds to his face and head and is still admitted at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
