Over a dozen women and youth from northern Belize are being taught to repair cell phones. Yesterday, the Office of the Prime Minister launched a “Cell Phone Repair Course” in the Orange Walk District. The endeavor, a partnership between the National Women’s Commission, seeks to empower Belizeans with useful skills to make money. The 14 participants have begun training and are being taught by technicians skilled in the upkeep, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of cell phone devices. According to the government, the offer of cell phone repair service is lacking in various parts of the country, especially rural areas, highlighting the project’s significance. The program was first launched in the Corozal District and is expected to be expanded in the coming months.
