Aspiring entrepreneurs learn from the experts on how to start, grow and maintain their own business in Belize through Beltraide’s 5th annual Entrecon. It is an event that promotes an entrepreneurial ecosystem that supports engagement, exchange and empowerment in the globalized market place. According to Dr. Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director of Beltraide many people in Belize, specifically, are afraid to invest in entrepreneurship. He noted that this event helps them build that courage to create their own product and follow their passion.
Dr.Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director, Beltraide: “For the participants the other aspect of it right across the room here you also have existing businesses that are here and these are success stories. So it’s not just about hearing about being entrepreneurs you can see tangibly Belizean owned businesses that have been developed, all of them are not here but many of these business started from someones’ kitchen, you have seen them graduating into something very large thinking about Marie Sharps for example that’s an example now where it’s now on the global market and the others like Marie Sharp who can go on the global market so that’s a tangible thing that we can see it. Apart from that remember the other tangible is the more entrepreneurship we have it creates employment as well and that employment creation means additional spending in the economy which really grows the economy and creates a better society for all of us. I must say that from year to year the number of entrepreneurs who come out, so what we have now I think today we have 250 that were registered and so it simply tells us that we are seeing that growth. What we want to encourage of course is to see entrepreneurs from across the country.”
The event also included giveaways such as money and scholarships from Galen University. This one day event was held today at the Belize Biltmore Plaza.
