Twenty-year-old Eric Edward Mendez, an air condition unit technician of Tamarind Street, was charged with the attempted murder of 38-year-old Tyrone Stevens when he appeared today before Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser. Mendez was also charged with grievous harm and use of deadly means of harm with intent to cause grievous harm. Chief Magistrate Fraser explained to him that she will not take a plea because the offences are indictable. She also explained to him that she cannot consider offering him bail until after three months have passed because of the nature of the offences. She remanded him into custody until July 26. The incident occurred on Sunday morning. Stevens, a resident of Jane Usher Boulevard, was purchasing some items at a Shop at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Jane Usher Boulevard when his assailant rode up to him on a bicycle and fired several shots. Stevens received injuries to several parts of his body. He was transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was admitted to ward. His condition has been described as stable.
