Estranged Spouse Gets 1 Year for Domestic Incident

Keith Staine, who was found guilty of aggravated assault with a machete on his estranged wife today by the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith, was sentenced to one year imprisonment. The sentence is to run concurrently to any other sentence Staine is serving. The incident occurred on July 13, 2015 at Ladyville. The woman testified that she was getting ready to go to her daughter’s house and she was locking her door when Staine pushed the door and pushed a machete at her and called her insulting names. She said she put her hand in her bag to get her phone to call the police and Staine told her to go ahead because he was not afraid of the police. The police officer who arrived at the scene testified and corroborated the woman’s testimony. Staine testified and said that he was in a stormy relationship with his wife and that she was a liar. He said she threw his bags out of the window and told him that she was going to call the police. He denied that he had a machete and that he cursed his wife. Staine called his mother as a witness but she was unable to help him because she said she was not there.
