There was another shooting in the city, but the victim escaped with his life. At around nine o’clock, forty-four-year-old, Eugene Tillett was standing in front of his home on Western Avenue when the shooter came from the direction of Electric Avenue and fired several shots at him. Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo says the incident likely stems from an ongoing feud Tillett had with someone in the area.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “Last night at about 9pm police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where the observed Mr.Eugen Tillett suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the body. What we understand is that just before 9pm Mr.Tillett was inside of his house when someone came from Electric Avenue, ran inside of his yard and fired several shots at his direction causing his injuries. He is still admitted and is in a stable condition at this moment.”
Reporter: Any motive behind the shooting ?
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “Well we know Mr.Tillett is well known to police and we believe it’s probably some kind of dispute that he has around with some persons in that area that might have led to his shooting.”
According to Cowo, investigators believe that the shooter may have been studying Tillett’s movements and chose to strike while police were not patrolling the area.
