A government contract worth $70,000 has come under public scrutiny after it was revealed that former Deputy Commissioner of Police Aaron Guzman is now serving as a special advisor in the Ministry of Home Affairs. The revelation comes at a tense time for the Briceno administration, which is currently locked in a salary dispute with the Joint Unions Negotiating Team. Guzman’s post, which also includes the use of a government vehicle, is meant to support and advise Chief Executive Officer, Sharole Carr- Saldivar. Love News understands that the post is temporary and is to assist the CEO who does not have a policing background, nor experience in hands-on law enforcement matters. Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa defended the hiring, stating that such appointments are standard across ministries and necessary in this case. He noted, quote, “Having the experience and insight of someone like Aaron Guzman has been incredibly helpful to the CEO”. End of quote. He added that the contract should be viewed as an investment in strong leadership rather than excess spending.
