Extradition Proceedings Commence for Accused Murderer Nimrod Tillett: Trial Set for Next Year

The Belize City Magistrate’s Court has granted an application made by the prosecution to commence extradition proceedings against accused murderer Nimrod Tillett. The matter goes to trial next year, and if the persecution is successful, Tillett will be extradited to Mexico, where he will stand trial for the brutal murder of a woman in Quintana Roo, Mexico, back in 2019. Tillett had already been on remand at the Belize Central Prison for sixty days, but the Chief Magistrate granted a warrant of apprehension, effectively extending his remand until the start of his extradition trial. After answering some questions, Tillett was furnished with a hundred and fifty pages of evidence, which the prosecution intends to use against him at the trial. He is due back in court on January 29, 2024. Our records show that Tillett has been charged in connection with three other murders, those being the 2009 murder of Enrique Castillo, the 2020 murder of Abner Novelo, and the 2022 murder of Bernard Timmons.
