While all eyes are on Patrick Faber and John Saldivar for party leader, competing for the seat of First Deputy Party Leader are Hugo Patt of Corozal North and Tracy Panton of the Albert Division. Panton announced on Tuesday, October 22, that she would be running. According to Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber, he supports a woman running for leadership positions.
Hon.Patrick Faber, Minister of Education Youth and Sports: “When it was being rumored that Tracey would in fact put in her name for leader for me that was a welcomed thing because I believe that women should aspire- also believe that women should actualize their ambitions and for me once it is that there is not the kind of tokenism, ‘a woman for a woman’s sake’, I believe that II can say that in terms of Tracey that she is really really a top level Minister, a top level representative in her constituency as well so she’s up and fit for the challenge and hooray she’s a woman -that adds even more to her ability I think. So I embrace her candidacy 100%, I likewise embrace the candidacy of my other female colleague who unfortunately is on my opposition slate but that’s how it is. I nonetheless value the fact that she has put in her name in the race.”
According to Faber he believes that Hugo Patt is also a prime candidate for the position of Deputy Party Leader.
