Faber’s Vehicle Fire: Accused Arsonist Denied Bail

Allen Martinez, charged with arson for allegedly setting fire to a Government vehicle assigned to Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber, was denied bail when he appeared today before the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant might interfere with the witnesses if granted bail, that the offence is of a serious nature which carries a penalty of life imprisonment, that the prosecution has a strong case and if granted bail the defendant might not return to court and that the defendant went to the yard of the complainant. Chief Magistrate upheld the objection and remanded Martinez into custody until December 14. The incident occurred on October 12 and the allegation is that Martinez destroyed by fire one grey Mazda car and two surveillance cameras. The car is valued at twenty five thousand dollars.
