Family Calls for Road Safety After Elderly Man Killed in Traffic Accident

The family of Cecilio Caal is calling for greater consciousness from drivers on the TV Ramos Highway. The family is currently lamenting the loss of 84-year-old, Cecilio Caal who was killed yesterday while riding his black beach cruiser bicycle near his home.  The senior citizen was hit by a 2007 Toyota Costa Bus driven by Domingo Torres. Love News spoke with Caal’s son in law Robert Pott who explained that this was no unusual route for Caal, and that the incident is due to the negligence of the driver.

Roberto Pott, Son in law: “These busitos especially the guys from Santa Cruz I travel this road a lot so I have experience with them and what they do they speed up because I guess probably because they want to pick up all the passengers the other bus don’t pick up but I stress that once you get in the village, in a village, it’s time to slow down because there’s people, there are children, there are school here and what happened to him yesterday I mean I think if that driver was slowing down he couldn’t hurt Mr.Caal so bad. Because they way I see it where the found the bike under the vehicle I guess he was driving very hard and these are the things that we look on and anyhow that it happened we will appeal to all the drivers when you’re getting into the villages let’s slow down. We have pedestrians, we have schools here, we have children like I said and let’s slow down. You never know you meet the guys on the cycles slow down.”

Police are yet to levy charges.
