A man is claiming police harassment, and while that is not exactly something new, this story comes with a twist – his girlfriend and one-year-old son were detained for almost 24 hours. Randy O’Neal told us today that he has been battling this harassment for years, but he got enough of it after his family was taken in, reportedly for no reason. To make matters worse, his girlfriend, Natasha Mejia, had recently received a severe injury requiring stitches, after police raided their Hattieville home on Friday. O’Neal spoke to us around 2pm – while Mejia was still detained – and told us he fears for his life and that of his family.
Mejia and her son were not released until around three o’clock this afternoon. We met up with her as she walked out of the police station, and she told us that she had been the victim of verbal abuse by the officer in charge. She claimed that her life and that of her son had been threatened. Mejia also stated that she does not know why she was detained. Love News learnt from the officers that she was allegedly invovled in hiding a firearm.
We spoke with Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, late this evening who clarified the situation. He confirmed that O’Neal called him, but stated that O’Neal wanted him to release his girlfriend and child. Commissioner Williams told him that he was not able to do that since he does not interfere with the day-to-day operations of officers. We will keep following this story.
