A family dispute has landed a Belize City man behind bars tonight. Twenty-nine-year-old Keiron Alexander Coote has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison on charges of aggravated assault and wounding, despite one of the charges against him being withdrawn. This evening, Coote appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrates Court, charged with aggravated assault and wounding upon his stepmother, Dawn Parchue, and common assault upon his father, Glenford Logan. While his father withdrew the common assault charge during the hearing, the charges involving his stepmother were not dismissed. Parchue had initially requested to withdraw her complaint but was unable to do so during her first court appearance as she lacked an identification card to verify her identity. After Parchue returned to court with her ID, the prosecutor informed the court that they had sought advice from their superiors and would not be allowing the withdrawal at this time. Instead, the prosecutor requested an adjournment to review the matter further. Coote is accused of wounding his stepmother and assaulting his father n Wednesday, January 8, 2025. While the motive for the violent confrontation remains unclear, the case has shaken the family as today also happens to be Logan’s birthday. Coote pleaded not guilty to all three charges during his arraignment. He has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until Thursday, January 16, 2025, when the court will revisit the matter of withdrawing the charges.
