A family’s peace was disrupted on Sunday night when heavy rains and strong winds destroyed the home of Teresa Jackson in San Pedro, Colombia Village, Toledo District.  Correspondent Paul Mahung has the story.

The freak storm topped trees

Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: A widow and three other family members escaped injuries as their home was partially destroyed by a freak storm in Toledo. Shortly before midnight Sunday a freak storm ravaged through several locations in rural Toledo leaving in it’s pathway destruction to trees, roadside signs and in one case partial destruction to a family home in San Pedro Columbia Village as related to Love News by the owner Teresa Jackson.

Teresa Jackson, Homeowner

Teresa Jackson, Homeowner: It started to rain at about ten o’clock and it started to rain, breeze and thunder and then the rain was coming inside my house and I asked my parents if they were getting wet and they said yes they were getting wet already. So I told them to come out of the house and go in the other room and they went. When I came out I saw the roof had flown away and  when I went and saw if my son was in the room and he had to try to come out by the window and I opened the door to take out my daughter’s school books and clothes and her mattress got wet and I need help with construction materials. Please help us we need help.”

Damage to the Jackson’s home

Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Eight inches of flood water from in the yard that covered the house floor at midnight went down during the early morning hours and as daylight hours kicked in family members began cleaning up and recovered several household items. With the need for assistance especially for roof construction materials anyone who would want to kindly help can contact the Jackson family through phone numbers 623-9011.
