A family of seven in Orange Walk has been quarantined at the Multi-Purpose Complex in Orange Walk Town for forty-three days. 20-year-old Kevin Marroquin, his parents, and siblings were all placed in quarantine back in July when they tested positive for COVID-19. After the quarantine period was finished they were tested again and their results came back negative but they are yet to be released from the quarantine center. Tonight, the family has reached out to the media hoping that it would make a difference for them.
Kevin Marroquin, Quarantined in Orange Walk: “My biggest concern is that of my dad. He’s a diabetic patient and I mean the conditions in here, the food he’s supposed to be eating healthy and the food here isn’t the greatest so that’s my biggest concern and one of my other concerns is my heads of animals I had at home which most of them died. We’ve just been tested four times and every time – the first time everybody was positive, the second time there was four negatives and three positives and the third time it switched around and they lost some of our tests. The fourth time I don’t even know what, they haven’t told us anything it’s been over two weeks that they tested us and they never came back to us with any answers of how was positive and who was negative. There was a lot of contraband three months ago that was coming in through the border points and you know that gets carried to the stores and the stores sell it so I don’t know if that’s where it happened that we got infected but I don’t remember any of us having any contact with anybody from Mexico or from anywhere else that was infected.”
The Marroquin family is requesting that the Government properly properly fulfill their needs if they insist on keeping them isolated.
Kevin Marroquin, Quarantined in Orange Walk: “My request would be better food if they want to keep us here longer that’s my only request. You get frustrated from sitting too long in one place when your normal life is just working and going about your day. I mean my sisters are also bored of being in here and they’re always at home doing something. I don’t know, as far as I know for months we haven’t been sick we never got sick in here. I know there’s positive cases in here apparently but there’s nobody showing any symptoms however so I’m not sure.”
The family was reported for border jumping. They have refuted the allegations, saying that they may had been infected by purchasing contraband goods.
