Family of Deceased Pleads for Release of Matriarch’s Body Amid Transport Troubles

A family of Silver Creek Village in the Toledo District has turned to the news media, appealing to the relevant authorities to release the body of their matriarch. 61-year-old, Florentina Choco passed away eleven days ago on April 5, and to date, the family is still clueless as to when they will be able to lay her to rest.  Love News understands that the problem is not only about doing the post-mortem examination, but the family is saying that there is no available transport in the deep south to get the body to the medical facility on the Boom/Hattieville Road.  The son has indicated that the family is willing to provide transportation, but that the authorities have postponed the post-mortem twice already without notifying the family.  The husband of the deceased, Miguel Choco, spoke to PGTV earlier today, saying that not being able to lay his wife to rest has been haunting him.

Miguel Choco, Grieving Husband: “I’m seeking for help because I don’t know what else I should do because my wife passed away the 5th of this month and up to now her body is still laying in the morgue. I don’t know why they don’t want to take her to the Belize for post mortem so I can bury my wife. I need to bury my wife. My wife is disturbing me. Last night she was asking me for her bag so I want to know if I could seek help why that the authority down south for the policing system that they are not helping me because when she passed away the hospital passed it in the law’s hand to take her body to Belize. When we called the medical center in Ladyville they told us that my wife’s name was scheduled two times ago for this to happen and now I’m seeking for help why that they don’t want to take my wife’s body so I could bury my wife.”

Florentina Choco passed away at the Punta Gorda Hospital.  According to the family, they were told that the date for the autopsy has to be scheduled by the Forensic Unit.  Love News understands that the issue of delayed autopsies has become very common across the country, seemingly, due to a lack of resources.  We will follow this story and bring you an update in subsequent news reports.
