Family Seeks Justice for Victim of Fatal Road Traffic Incident

A family in the Cayo District is seeking justice for Polito Gregorio August who died in a road traffic incident on Friday night. The matter unfolded at the corner of Juanito Gongora Street and George Price Boulevard in Benque Viejo Town just after seven o’clock.  August was on his way home from his security post when his motorcycle was hit by a mini-SUV. Initial information reveals that Jimmy Leslie was driving a Kia Soul on the George Price Boulevard, when his vehicle collided with August’s Lifan motorcycle. August was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. August’s niece, Khandi Roches told Love News that the family is angry with the charges that Leslie received as a result of the incident.

Khandi Roches, Niece of Deceased: “So the family is very torn. I mean to have your loved one expecting to come home and somebody just recklessly bam take him away from us gone to soon because who would ever possibly be prepared for this ? We are hurt. We are very hurt. Even the witness that saw it said that the driver Jimmy Leslie after he collided into my uncle he dragged my uncle so many feet away from the cycle and he was shouting to stop, to stop. He was shouting. He was underneath the vehicle. So for Mr.Leslie to just get charged with driving without due care and attention and causing death by careless conduct that’s ridiculous. Come on that’s a life. He took away a father, grandfather, come on. We’re devastated and we’re hurt and we’re angry with the charges that Mr.Leslie got. At least a manslaughter, come on he took away my uncle’s life.”

August was a father of 4 who served in the Belize Defence Force over 20 years.
