Fourteen-year-old Jiely Vasquez has been not returned home since yesterday morning, leaving her family in deep distress. Despite a report that the teenager was found safe just before six o’clock this evening, the family told Love News that still have not heard from the child. The teenager, a student from Santa Cruz Village, Cayo District, was last seen around 7:30 yesterday morning. She is of Hispanic descent with a clear complexion, slim built, and four feet nine inches in height. We spoke with the child’s aunt, Annelle Pacheco, who says they do have an idea of who she might be with, but the person is not cooperating with the family.
Anelle Pacheco, Aunt: “They dropped her off at school at 7:30 to Mount Carmel High School, but she did not enter the school. We didn’t know until when it was time for them to come out and to go home. We realized that she’s not coming home, and we went to speak to the teachers and they said, no, she wasn’t in the classroom this morning and we were shocked. So we realized that she had gone missing. We came to the police station to do a report and we have been speaking with her friends and nobody is saying nothing. I think she has like four friends and her friends don’t know, one of them was at school. So we went to their home to try to speak with them and she’s not anywhere around. Julie is a minor that she’s going through problems and so that’s why we are concerned. We just want to know that she’s okay. We thought she might have run away with her boyfriend. The guy is 17, 18 years old, but he is not saying anything and that’s the only suspect we have at this moment and the police is doing their job, but he has nothing to say. We haven’t gotten him to speak.”
Adding to the family’s concern is the fact that Vasquez does not have a phone and has made no contact since she went missing. Her friends have been unable to assist in locating the child and to date there have been no reported sightings. Pacheco said that their family fears she may have crossed the border.
Anelle Pacheco, Aunt: “She asked the taxi driver, are you going to the border? And the taxi said “Yes”. At that time students travel from Guatemala to Belize and back and forth. So she said, “Yes.” so he took her but he was a little surprised when she said “can you stop me here?” just before getting to the border. That’s like a like a sidewalk that goes towards the river, that when you cross you cross, you know, if you go through the river you cross. And then he said, she said “Can you stop me here?” And she came off on that corner. And then when he went to drop off his passengers and came back she was walking back like coming back towards off towards Benque Viejo. So there’s a camera right on that corner and we are waiting for footage to see if she crossed towards the river or she went another direction. We don’t know. We just know that that’s the last time where they saw her on that corner by the river. So my sister is right now by and in the river on the border line and they’re asking and they’re checking to see if she had to cross. But because that information we got it this morning that she was dropped off on that corner.”
