Fatal Collision Between Taxi and Motorcycle Claims Life in Cayo District

A man is dead following a collision between a taxi and a motorcycle on Saturday in the Cayo district. 24-year-old, Marvin Caceres, and his brother 20-year-old, Mynor Caceres were driving on a motorcycle on George Price Avenue in Santa Elena Town when the incident happened. According to Police, the taxi driver, 27-year-old Jorge Eder told them that he turned on his indicator to show he was turning into a car wash when two men on a motorcycle suddenly crashed into the driver’s side of his vehicle. The men were transported to the Hospital. While undergoing treatment at the San Ignacio Hospital, Marvin died. His brother, Melvin Caceres spoke to Cayo Correspondent Eliu Yacab who says that the family is seeking justice since they have video footage showing that the taxi driver did not turn on the vehicle’s indicator.

Melvin Caceres, Brother of Deceased: “I got a call that my little brother had an accident going toward the board bridge and unfortunately he passed away. He just came out of his work, his boss said he just paid him. They were going to the river with my next little brother when the accident happened. He never reached the river and the car mashed him. They said the boy who was going in like where the car wash is and when my brother was going. As far as I know but they said the boy didn’t put any signal light or nothing and he said he wasn’t coming fast but the video that we have he has the fault he was going fast.”

Reporter: The taxi man.

Melvin Caceres, Brother of Deceased:  “The taxi man. And we told the police we have video and everything. Now they said how we got the video but as far as we know they haven’t told us anything now I don’t know what will happen. He is free now they have charged him anything yet and I know that he had to get detained for forty eight hours as far as I know I think that’s the procedure and he didn’t get detained. The boy that knocked down my little brother he hasn’t been charged anything yet as far as I know and I don’t know if it will stay like that or if they will do anything. Although I know it won’t bring back my little brother but it hit us hard. The hardest part is the guy that killed my little brother and injured the next one as far as we know right now he is going to surgery in Belize, he broke his two feet and his harm and he is going into surgery as far as we know that my father communicated to us just now. But we are looking for justice and at least he should have apologized like how I tell you he is my friend and he knows all of the family but he should have apologized but instead he just laughed.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police Sergeant Rosario Ramirez responded to the family saying that police are still investigating.
