Fatal Collision in Stann Creek: Father of Seven Killed, Teenager Injured in Road Incident

A father of seven is dead, and a teenager severely injured, following a road traffic incident in the Stann Creek District yesterday. According to Police, 50-year-old, Everisto Victoriano Tush, was riding his Lifan brand motorcycle between miles 22 and 23 on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway, along with 18-year-old, Galino Ical when a car reportedly rear-ended the cycle.  Indications are that Tush was making a right turn into a gas station in Santa Cruz Village just before four o’clock yesterday evening. An eyewitness, Virginio Sho, told Love News that he immediately called for help, but that Tush seemed to have died on the spot.  He indicated, however, that the quick response from bystanders was what helped to save Ical’s life.

Virginio Sho, Eye Witness: “When I reached to one of the gates we heard like a heavy bang thinking it was like a truck that maybe had problem with the tire or something like that but at the same time we saw two persons fly in the air and they landed on the pavement. So that is like around 3:30pm. But at the same time we hurry came out of our truck to see if the guys are still okay but one died on the spot, the driver for the motorbike died on the spot. And after a while the passenger was still on the highway and maybe after three minutes more or less two ladies started to do CPR on him and he got back his breath. At the same time I called 9-1-1 to send the police officer on the scene. They responded and maybe more or less like fifteen to twenty minutes the police from Santa Cruz arrived at the scene.”

Jose Tush, the brother of the deceased, told Love News he hopes that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Jose Tush, Brother of Evoristo Tush (Deceased) : “I heard that the man was coming to Santa Cruz by the gas station he is getting to fill up, that’s what I heard. The man reached by the gas station and he was going to the gas station to fill up when a car coming behind him knocked him down, that’s what I heard. I just want the law to investigate really what happened or the law to check the person if he is under the influence of alcohol, that’s all they need to check.”

Ical was taken to Belmopan for further medical treatment.  Reports are that he suffered severe head trauma and is in urgent need of a CT scan. Authorities have since detained the driver of the car, 31-year-old, Darnell Beeks of Independence Village.  Love News understands that he Beeks has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
