Fatal Collision on Hummingbird Highway Claims One Life; Charges Levied Against Driver

A road traffic incident, just after one o’clock on Sunday morning, claimed the life of another man and left two others hospitalized. 31-year-old, Elifar Vasquez, and 38-year-old, Moises Perez, were traveling in a Nissan pickup truck on the Hummingbird Highway when, around mile 53, a white Ford pickup truck made a left turn in front of them, causing a collision. The Nissan truck collided into the passenger side of the Ford vehicle, driven by 44-year-old, Omar Cawich. The men were taken to the Western Regional Hospital, where Perez passed away. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says that police have since carried out an investigation, and have levied charges against Cawich. 

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division:“Inside a Nissan truck was Elifar Vasquez and Moises Perez and the Ford F150 truck was being driven by Omar Cawich. Investigation revealed that they collided at the said location which resulted in fatal injuries to Moises Perez. An investigation was carried out into this report and Omar Cawich has since been arrested and charged for the crime of manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention. He was taken to court today.

Perez was a resident of Franks Eddy Village in the Cayo District.
