Fatal Crash on George Price Highway: Woman Killed, Driver Flees Scene

A road traffic incident on the George Price Highway has claimed the life of a female passenger and left another injured. Police responded to the incident last night near mile 47, near the intersection of NEMO Drive in the area of El Rancho Restaurant. The collision involved a gray Toyota 1999 pickup truck, driven by 70-year-old Manuel Juarez of Camalote Village, and a dark-colored Chevy Camaro. The pickup truck sustained extensive damage to its right side, including the door, wheel, headlamp, and windshield. Tragically, a passenger in the pickup truck, 50-year-old Maria Caal Xi, originally from Livingston, Guatemala, who was residing in Cotton Tree Village, was found lifeless and trapped inside the vehicle. Her body was identified by her son, Samuel Cal, a laborer from Cotton Tree. Xi was pronounced dead at 10:30pm. Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup, Manuel Juarez, sustained injuries and was taken to the Western Regional Hospital.  According to police reports, the driver of the Chevy Camaro fled the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle and running into nearby bushes. Police are actively investigating the incident and are working to locate the missing driver. The pickup truck’s insurance was verified as current with Atlantic Insurance, but its license expired in May 2024. Xi, the mother of seven sons, was leaving from work and catching a ride with her boss home when the unfortunate incident took place. Her son Samuel Caal is now pleading for justice.

Samuel Caal, Son of Victim: “My mother was a hard working person. She tried her best and she’s a loving mom, a hard working one. She left seven of us and right now we don’t know what will happen. We don’t know exactly what to do but only God will take care of her and she will rest in peace. We just want justice and make the law take care of whoever has the fault because I don’t wish anybody to lose their mommy like that. I received a message that my mother had an accident and I thought she was just injured but when we reached to the scene the guy that crashed with the pickup that my mom was in the guy ran away and he was in the car and we don’t know exactly who he is but we hope the law does the best investigation.”

Love News understands that the driver of the Chevy Camaro remains wanted by the Police.
