Fatal Road Traffic Accident Claims One Life on the George Price Highway

A fatal road traffic accident (RTA) on mile 23 and 24 on the George Price Highway caused the injury of several passengers and the death of Sidney Lewis Collins. Initial reports are that the 61 year old taxi driver of Jane Usher was driving on the highway from the direction of Belmopan towards Belize City at around 12: 40 this afternoon along with 5 to six passengers when he lost control of the vehicle while swerving away from a grey in color Volkswagen Virtus which was heading the opposite direction from Belize City towards Belmopan. The Taxi SUV was seen on the side flipped with its 4 wheels in the air. The body of Collins was observed lodged partially underneath the vehicle apparently motionless. Personnel from the Belize Fire Department along with transport personnel assisted the police in removing the body from underneath the SUV. The body was transported to the KHMH where it was pronounced dead. Investigations revealed that the passengers were assisted out of the SUV and ferried via private motor vehicle to seek medical attention; however, their particulars are unknown at this time. Police are investigating.
