A road traffic incident has resulted in the deaths of two men in northern Belize. Just before five o’clock this morning, Police responded to a distress call on the outskirts of San Antonio Village in the Orange Walk District. At the scene, they found a white Freightliner truck overturned in the middle of the road, and an International brand dump truck off the shoulder of the highway, as well as white Great Wall Wingle pickup truck off the side of the road. Reports say that the International truck was being driven by 42-year-old, Sheldon Meighan of Bullet Tree Village, Cayo District. While Meighan was driving from Yo Creek to San Antonio a Caribbean Chicken freight truck, being driven at the time by 26-year-old by Jeremy Daniel Portillo crashed into the back of the international dump truck and died on the spot. Also traveling with Portillo was thirty-eight-year-old Cornelio Magana and eighteen-year-old Isair Jared Magana. Cornelio sustained severe injuries and was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Jared Magana remains at the hospital in a stable condition. During the impact the dump truck was pushed forward and it crashed into a police mobile patrol pickup. All the officers on board managed to escape the incident without injury. Police investigations into the matter continue.
