One young man is dead following a tragic traffic accident that happened on Friday night. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout out Dangriga Town where the victim resided. Vejea Alvarez as the story.
Vejea Alvarez, Love FM News: A three vehicle pile up near mile 39 on the Hummingbird Highway claimed the life of 22-year-old Alvaro Paz. Around seven o’clock on Friday night Paz was travelling from Belmopan to Dangriga when his BMW sedan collided head on with one of two freightliner trucks involved in the accident. The other truck was travelling directly behind and was unable to make an immediate stop as a result it came crashing into the back of the first freightliner causing an even greater impact to the BMW. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvette one of the truck drivers has been detained.
Joseph Myvette, Assistant Commissioner of Police: “Police observed an orange in color freightliner truck that was south bound and shortly behind that was a white freight liner truck also that was south bound driven by one Levan Borland. The name of the other driver is one Christian Guerra who was driving the white freightliner. Borlan was detained pending this investigation. At this point in time I do not know whether or not he has since been released and NIP served on him but I know that samples were taken from him pending the outcome of this investigation as well.”
Vejea Alvarez, Love FM News: Paz was a devoted Christian and for the past ten years has been attending Dios es Bueno Church in Dangriga Town. By all accounts he was a talented musician who played both the bass and the guitar for the church’s band. Hyron Duek played alongside Paz for the past seven years and says he yearned to be a professional musician.
Haron Duek, Friend: “He loved music. He loved electronic music like Dubstep, Trap, all those mixes, he loved stuff like that. He loved to play the guitar the riffs, he loved the bass he’s actually really talented. He really wanted to get ahead in music above anything else he really wanted to be an artist. He actually made a couple beats and stuff since he uses a program to make music.”
Vejea Alvarez, Love FM News: Paz worked as an assistant at the Dangriga branch of Comex Paint but Duek says his friend had far greater ambitions and dreamed of opening his own business.
Haron Duek, Friend: “He was trying to be an entrepreneur to try to make a business. Sometimes he would drop off people on a bus or whatever like just to pick people up and drop them off to work and pick them back up and drop them back home and stuff like that and he also was trying to get into having a gas station business too he was trying to do a bunch of stuff, trying to get ahead in life. Definitely somebody that would make the place better.”
