Father and Son Robbed at Gunpoint in Cayo District
Over the weekend, a father and son were held up at gunpoint in the Cayo District. Last night, a truck driver of the Belizean Queen Freight Company was robbed of an estimated twenty thousand Belize dollars. 33-year-old, Francisco Javier Requena told police that around 7 o’clock he returned home in Esperanza Village after conducting his rounds of delivery and collection in the south. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, explained Requena went to check on his son but was ambushed by two armed bandits.
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “Franics Requena reported that on Sunday he went to visit his son who had just returned from doing a delivery. Upon his arrival to collect the cash from the deliveries they were ambushed by two male persons with firearms who held them up and stole an undisclosed amount of money that was in the truck. Thereafter the two male persons made good their escape from the area. We do not have any suspects for this robbery at this time.”
Reporter: Is it believed to be an inside job ?
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “We do not know. Again the father went to look for his son and when he found him and took the cash that is when the person approached and robbed both of them.”
