Last week Friday night a man and his daughter were the victims of a road traffic accident. 49-year-old Ezekiel Ortega was riding his motorcycle on the George Price Highway with his 18-year-old daughter Lilian Sanabria after 9:30 p.m. when they were hit by a vehicle which did not stop to render aid. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvette says clues were left at the scene but the driver of the vehicle has not been identified as yet.
ACP Joseph Myvett: “On Friday last sometime around 9:20 PM Police were called to mile 44 on the George Price Highway where upon arrival at the scene of the accident a motorcycle was observed on the right hand side of the road traveling from Belmopan towards Belize City direction with damages to the rear portion of the cycle. Police also learned that the cycle was being driven by one Ezekiel Ortega 49 years of Cotton Tree Village and he was accompanied by Lilian Sanabria 18 years who was his passenger. The investigation revealed that they obviously were hit from behind by a vehicle which did not stop. A small portion of a blue bumper was found at the scene so Police are following several leads in relation to this investigation. Mr. Ortega received head and body injuries and is in a critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital whilst his passenger Mr. Sanabria also received head injuries but she is in a stable condition at the Western Regional Hospital.”
Reporter: “Can you establish what kind of vehicle was involved in the hit and run?”
ACP Joseph Myvett: “No we are still in the process of trying to determine that, other than the fact that the portion of the bumper that was left at the scene is a blue in color bumper.”
Lilian Sanabria has been released from the hospital but her father is still being treated for his injuries.
