Earlier this year wildfires raged through parts of the Chiquibul, Vaca and Caracol Forest Reserves. Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) concluded their analysis and assessment report on these fires indicating that over 22,000 acres of land were affected by wildfires. According to the Executive Director for FCD, Rafael Manzanero, the lands should be recovering by now if they are not being occupied or used by Guatemalans. Manzanero says they are now preparing for the upcoming dry season.
News understands that the FCD is expecting additional equipment and funds for training by November.
