The Federation of Cruise Tourism Association of Belize (FECTAB) has condemned the Briceno administration for its back-stepping on the construction of a causeway. The causeway had already been approved by the Senate and given environmental clearance, but last week the government issued a release saying that Cabinet will be reviewing the matter as files that prove the causeway would be environmentally sound, were misplaced. FECTAB, led by its President Emeritus, Tom Greenwood has expressed support for the causeway saying that it would enhance the operations and livelihoods of the tour guides and tour operators. In a press conference this morning the duo lashed out on the government with accusations of having motives for its decision.
Meanwhile, President David Almendarez expressed upset over key players in the Briceno administration who are opposing the construction of the causeway. Almendarez further noted that there seems to be amnesia in effect for some of those in government.
Additionally, the government has now claimed that the Stake Bank Project was not inclusive of the construction of the causeway. Our archived footage, dated back to 2014, however, show the Senate approving the causeway, saying the time has come.
