The UDP’s leader convention is fast approaching, and Patrick Faber and John Saldivar are fully engaged in their campaigns as they seek to succeed Dean Barrow as the leader of the Party. According to Deputy Prime Minster, Patrick Faber, there is a slate that has been created by his opponent, John Saldivar.
Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports: “I don’t have a slate but there is a slate. Minister Saldivar is working very hard in fact he announced some time ago that he had sealed the deal with the slate and that it would be announced shortly, that was probably a month and a half ago and we are still waiting for that announcement of that slate but I guess we’ll have to wait like you until November 3rd to hear the full slate. As I said I don’t know that to be the case factually.”
Reporter: But aren’t you in a position where you have to snipe off the delegates?
Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports: “Absolutely not. We’re not even in the position where those delegates have all been selected. I don’t think that any more than fix or six maybe seven constituencies have officially registered their delegates so we’re not at that stage whatsoever and as far as I can tell you factually none of my colleagues, not one even those who have confirmed their support for Saldivar have said to me ‘I will not make my delegates open to a meeting with you.’ or ‘I will try to shield them from you.’ none of them have said that and that is what I am absolutely hoping will not change.”
Only two candidates are running for the position of Party Leader for the UDP.
