Firearms Control Board Voids December 2023 Gun Licenses, ComPol clarifies situation

The recent decision by the Firearms Control Board to void all gun licenses issued in December 2023 was aimed at security companies. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams clarified this week that license renewals for security companies are done at the end of the year, but the newly constituted board is starting fresh. Williams says that no company lost any money due to the decision.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “That does not have to do with gun dealers that’s company licenses those are like security companies like KBH and Fort Point and these security companies. But they have not been validated those licenses. What we had done is that since the board came to effect I think on November 19th or somewhere thereabouts I had stopped issuing licenses then. At the end of each year those companies would be required to write to the Commissioner seeking renewal of their license. So basically what the board is saying is that had we renewed any of those licenses in December that those licenses would be invalid but we have not done it. So those application for renewal when they came to me in December I had set them aside and they are currently in a box for the board to look at.”

Reporter: So no monies had been paid yet ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “No.”

The board was established by the Government of Belize late last year and officially appointed its members early this month
