Ten Belizeans, over the weekend, joined the list of persons under quarantine after they became the first set of repatriated persons to Belize. The group came home via cruise ship and were place under quarantine at the Radisson Fort George Hotel. The Director of Health Services explained the process upon their arrival.
Dr.Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services: “We had been anticipating a group to come in on Friday, cruise ship personnel that is, Belizeans and another group on Saturday then the Friday group didn’t come in and then we were alerted on Friday evening of a group of eleven due to come to the coast on Saturday morning. I think the initial time that had been given to us was that the ship would have been docked at six thirty. Ten Belizeans eventually came off the ship and so they are placed in the quarantine hotel that had been identified which is at the Radisson. They don’t necessarily mean that they are a high risk group they have been on that ship for a good number of days I have to verify the exact amount of days and make a determination to see how much longer they need to be there. Before they are released they will be tested and once they are deemed negative they will be released.”
The first repatriation exercise was slated for Friday, May 22 but the United Airlines flight arrived empty and left with repatriated Americans. Love News understands that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may be experiencing some hiccups in processing the repatriation applications.
