Fisheries Department Honors Late Officer with Manatee Tribute

The Fisheries Department has paid tribute to the late Vivian Ramnarace who was a part of their working team prior to her death on New Year’s Eve 2022. Vivian was a fisheries officer who would have been celebrating her birthday today. In her memory, the Fisheries Department announced that Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute (CMARI) has named a manatee in her honor. The department issued a release, saying that the manatee, now named, VIV, serves as a living tribute, embodying the qualities of strength, grace, and a deep love for aquatic ecosystems that echo Vivian’s in her life’s work. Jamal Galves, Program Coordinator for the CMARI, spoke to Love News about Vivian’s contribution to the conservation of manatees.

Vivian Ramnarace is one of three Belmopan residents killed on New Year’s Eve 2022. The other victims were her husband, Jon and her brother-in-law, David.
