Randy August, a fisherman who allegedly assisted in the retention of over seven thousand dollars worth of jewelry, the property of attorney Naima Barrow, was denied bail when he appeared today before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza and pled not guilty to a charge of handling stolen goods. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the offence has become prevalent and there is the possibility that if granted bail the defendant will hamper the investigation because over thirty thousand dollars worth of jewelry is still missing. August said that he has two kids and one on the way and he has an uncle who is disabled. But that was not enough to persuade Magistrate Mendoza to offer bail and August was remanded into custody until December 22. The jewelry were stolen during a burglary of Barrow’s house, located on Cumberbatch Street. The police reported that they recovered some of it when they were pawned by August.
