Fishers in Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve upset over changes to fishing grounds.

Fishers who operate in the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve are up arms over changes being made to their fishing grounds. Over the weekend, the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) and the Belize Fisheries Department (BFD), held a fishermen’s forum in Punta Gorda Town. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the fishers of changes being made to the fishing zones within the marine reserve. Victor Jacobs, one of the fishers, explained to Senior Toledo Correspondent, Paul Mahung, that the meeting was not beneficial in the eyes of the fishers that attended.
