FIU Warns Belizeans of Phishing Scams

The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) is warning the public of phishing scams using fake job offers. Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen these sorts of scams targeting unsuspecting Belizeans. FIU Director Kent Clare says that Belizeans should beware of online job offers that are posted on social media by unfamiliar persons or entities, require you to provide banking information or ask you to send money to a stranger. Clare says these scammers have been getting very creative and Belizeans must remain vigilant.

Clare is advising the public to not click on any links or call the number provided. He says that no one should agree to provide any bank details to these scammers. He says it is best to not interact with any of these so-called employers. However, we’ve also seen Belizeans playing an active role in trying to scam other Belizeans. Clare says these persons will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.

You can report any phishing scam to the FIU at 223-2729 or 223-0596.
