Quick police response today resulted in the detention of five robbers. At 3 o’clock this afternoon, employees of Scotiabank on the Philip Goldson Highway received a shock when five men entered the establishment armed and ready to rob. Police Commissioner Chester Williams was heading press brief with the media at the time of the incident and was able to afford us the preliminary details of the robbery.
Love News was at the crime scene shortly after and found police personnel canvassing the area. At the scene we saw the grey getaway van with its back glass shattered on Seashore Drive. Awaiting the robbers was a boat for their further escape. The escape was foiled, however, when the Gang Suppression Unit pursued and captured them. Several units of the Belize Police Department were on the scene as well as the Belize Coast Guard. It is yet to be ascertained if the robbers had managed to get money from the bank. We did receive reports that they had managed to rob the customers inside the bank. Two of the five are hospitalized, namely, Gasman Young and Jason McKenzie. We will have more on this story in tomorrow’s newscast.
