Former Attorney General, Francis Fonseca, has commended Magali Marin-Young as being the best Attorney General in Belize’s history. His remarks were made one day after the Government announced her departure from office. Unlike many other governmental departures, Marin-Young is leaving office based on an agreement made with the Prime Minister at the time of taking office. The agreement was that she would only be able to serve for a 2-year period which expired some seven months ago. She did, however, serve additional time upon request, and cannot further extend her time in office. According to Fonseca, Marin-Young’s contributions and intellect will be greatly missed in Cabinet.
Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education: “Excellent Attorney General Magali Marin Young I think without question in my view has been the best Attorney General Belize has had certainly in my years of public service being a member of the National Assembly. She has been solely focused on that work and that ministry so she has been at the forefront of leading significant efforts for legal reform, judicial reform. She has been working very hard on infrastructure development projects building a complex that’s one of her objectives she has created a plan for a judicial complex so absolutely nothing but great admiration for her work. She has provided sound advice to the cabinet. Absolutely competent Attorney General and she will be badly missed around the table in cabinet. I knew the AG well she and I are good friends, we went to school together and I knew coming into office that she had made that very clear that she could not serve a full term but she was prepared to give at least two years and she ended up giving a little more than that.”
Love News understands that the Prime Minister is fielding recommendations from his Cabinet for a new Attorney General.
