
Former Belize Defense Force Soldier Charged with Attempted Murder

A former soldier of the Belize Defense Force is behind bars after he was charged with the attempted murder of a Belize City man. On Friday night, around 11:30, a man on a motorcycle fired several into a yard on Western Avenue before speeding off, and subsequently nabbed by police. The incident resulted in 50-year-old, William Faux, sustaining a gunshot to his right leg, and transported to the KHMH. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, says the gunman was then detained and charged after being busted with a loaded gun.
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “He was inside a yard with other male persons when they were approached by a male person on a motorcycle who fired several shots in their direction causing his injury. The male person attempted to flee and they pursued him and the person was caught shortly there after he was identified as Kevin Montero. Police recovered a 9mm pistol from him along with the motorcycle. He has been arrested and charged for attempted murder, dangerous harm, and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “Again, there was a group of persons there and he fired towards their direction.”
Reporter: Motive behind the shooting ?
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “They had some altercation prior and this person left the area and came back on the motorcycle with the firearm. They had some altercation, that is what led to that shooting. He went for a firearm and he came back.”
