Former Director of Sports Ian Jones says he is being politically victimized under the Briceno administration. As a result, Jones has sought legal representation via Attorney Orson Elrington, Attorney Elrington wrote to the Attorney General, Magali Marin-Young noting that when his client was informed of his termination on November 20, 2020, he was allegedly told that the reason for his termination had to do with his political opinions. Jones was on a 2-year contract with an expiration date of May 2022. His contract stipulated that the contract could be terminated if both parties agree. This has led Attorney Elrington to claim wrongful termination and a breach of the contract. A portion of the letter noted, quote, “Your actions, therefore, amount to wrongful termination, a breach of contract, and a breach of the constitutional rights of my client. We are therefore demanding $186,115 dollars as payment for salary and gratuity for the full remaining two years of his contract, and damages for breach of his constitutional rights. We are hereby giving you 7 days to contact us and make arrangements for payment.” Love News understands that Elrington has written multiple times to the National Sports Council, but all correspondence has gone unanswered.
